This site is about Nathan Windisch, born 14 weeks premature, he stayed at the Neonatal unit for 15 weeks.

Mon 21st June
Day 286
9M 12D
The 6.5 kg (14.5 lb) size babygrows that we bought for Nathan only three weeks ago are a tight fit around the legs, and don't reach further than halfway down his forearms, so it was off to Mothercare to get the next size up, 8kg (17.5 lb). There's plenty of room around the middle, Nathan's either long or thin, depending on how you look at it.
Sun 20th June
Day 285
9M 11D

Nathan visited another bowls match today, and he was quite at home with all the attention. The lad was dropping with fatigue by the end of the day but wasn't any less cheerful for it.

Since the trip to Bournemouth a couple of weeks ago we've stopped sterilising Nathan's bottles and bowls. We still sterilise his dummies however.

Sat 19th June
Day 284
9M 10D
Giving Nathan dessert before his main meal was definitely a mistake. We had prepared casserole Provençal and a separate bowl of melon, both with added cream. The melon went down with frightening ferocity. The casserole didn't. This look of "why are you doing this to me?" made us think "Why am I doing this?" And the answer was "I don't know". So next time it'll be savoury before sweet.
Fri 18th June
Day 283
9M 9D

Another day of solids. This time the proportion of milk to solids was 50/50.

Nathan is now off breast milk entirely. He was getting more and more reluctant to feed until his only breast feed was the early morning one. He started to argue about that, so the morning routine is now approximately 4oz of milk first thing (6:30) followed by a bowl of porridge at 7:30.

What's Nathan like? Well he's a very smiley fellow, waking up every morning with a big smile. He sometimes laughs for no reason.
He's also very chatty. He can hold his end of a conversation for a long time. Only Nathan knows what he's talking about.
He can be a bit of a scaredy-cat. Sometimes if a game of peek-a-boo gets too much, or if the game of imitating his sounds back at him gets too frightening he's suddenly start crying. It doesn't last long, though.
He has lots of quiet moments as well. He can sit on a knee and stare off into the distance for minutes, uttering only the occasional contented sigh.

Thu 17th June
Day 282
9M 8D

The nurse came today. The hernias ARE back. They are reduceable, so there's no immediate panic. Just a feeling of dread that Nathan's got to have another operation.
The consultant is on holiday. Nathan will see her on her return, probably in conjunction with the surgeon.

Today Nathan ate more than he drank, for the first time. We've got some powdered savoury foods to go with all the fresh and frozen fruit we're preparing for him and he loves them to bits.

Wed 16th June
Day 281
9M 7D

Kkkkk sounds have been the order of the day. Nathan's learned a new sound.

We fear that the hernia is back. We'll call the nurse tomorrow.

Tue 15th June
Day 281
9M 7D

Nathan had a restless night. It may have been the heat, hunger, a bad dream... we don't know.

Today was good. Nathan ate tons, and was cheery all day. As long as mummy was in sight, that is. He doesn't like being left alone at the moment.
