This site is about Nathan Windisch, born 14 weeks premature, he stayed at the Neonatal unit for 15 weeks.

Mon 5th July
Day 301
9M 26D

We're trying to decide if Nathan really does answer to his name. Just dropping it into the conversation sometimes makes him look up and smile. Sometimes he just smiles without looking up. It's possible, but difficult to tell.

On a day when he's free from pain, the lad is such a joy to be around. Everything is new and funny.

Sun 4th July
Day 300
9M 25D

The lad is really starting to be able to put it away. He's not as big an eater for breakfast, but he's had three or four ounces of milk only an hour before. As for his other two solid feeds, Nathan seems to be be able to eat whatever is put in front of him, and the amounts are getting larger every day.

Playing with one of Nathan's favourite toys, two rings linked together, We discovered that even when they are dropped out of sight, the lad will still reach for them.

It may have just been today, but the lad has had seemingly hours of pain, probably tummy ache. We're hoping that we can get Nathan's (hopefully) last surgery scheduled soon.

New noises of the week are a squeal and a snort. The first is used at every opportunity.

Sat 3rd July
Day 299
9M 24D

Nathan had a busy day today. He went to a graduation ceremony where mum works, he went to a flower show where a sampler celebrating his birth was on display, and he watched part of a bowls match, where he was cooed over, as usual.

It was all going so well until, after his bath, the lad decided to eject his supper. This was soon replaced by milk. It's been so long since he did something like this that it was a bit of a surprise.

Fri 2nd July
Day 298
9M 23D

The lad ate like a baby elephant today. He had some food, then a bit more, then a bit more, then "Oh but I'm full mum, just a bit more".

Granny came round to visit and so did some other little friends that Nathan will be going swimming with next Thursday.

Nathan is a little confused by our new mirror. He can recognise our reflections, but doesn't know who the small person with them is.

Thu 1st July
Day 297
9M 22D

Nathan took a trip to his consultant today. We had a mixture of good news and bad. The good news is that Nathan has grown to 6.06kg (13lb 5oz) and is now 63cm (24") long.
The bad news is that the lad didn't do so well in his saturation test. He showed some prolonged low saturation levels and so he's back on the oxygen, 35 cc per minute at night at least.
We also had the return of his hernias confirmed. The right one at least. Nathan's consultant will write a letter to the surgeon, and we'll discuss where and who will perform the operation.

Wed 30th June
Day 296
9M 21D

Nathan has his first few sips from a cup today. At the moment he's lapping the drink out of the cup.

The lad's also slowly getting used to his baby bouncer. Yesterday it was a baby twirler, as he only got one foot on the ground, his left, and every time he kicked, he slowly rotated clockwise.

Tue 29th June
Day 295
9M 20D

We had a better Nathan today, although he wasn't completely restored to his usual cheerful self. This wasn't helped by a choking fit that called for a sharp pat on the back, followed by a return of food recently eaten. Oh well.

We think the saturation test went well, and although not silent, the machine didn't wake anyone up. We'll see what the doctors have to say.
