Tue 3nd August
Day 330
10M 26D |
Nathan was a pleasure to look after today, he was in such a
good mood. The weather was a bit cooler, which may have had
something to do with it.
We've got the sat monitor on Nathan again tonight, to see what
his oxygen levels are like without extra oxygen. The really
good news is that we've managed to turn the beep (that it made
every three minutes) off.

Mon 2nd August
Day 329
10M 25D |
Nan and Roy came to visit today. Nathan laughed all day. That
rolling belly laugh of his.
He didn't sleep much though, and by an extraordinary feat of
timing the lad collapsed into a heap forty five minutes before
bedtime. When he woke up half an hour later, he was as wide
awake as a Nathan could be. He sat up in his bath and everything.
Didn't want to go to sleep though.
Dad was eating grapes yesterday and decided to peel a grape
and give it to the lad to suck. He didn't count on Nathan biting
it in two. Now that's big enough to choke Nathan, and to there
was some relief when the half-grape was spat out again.

Sun 1st August
Day 328
10M 24D |
Another hot day. Great for adults, not so great for babies.
Nathan drank lots, but fought sleep so successfully throughout
the afternoon that by bedtime he was frazzled.
The lad has learned the trick of holding on while he's being
carried, although if he sees anything of interest he's off after
it. This is especially spectacular. If the item of interest
is behind him then Nathan attempts a backflip.

Sat 31st July
Day 327
10M 23D |
Yet another too-hot day, even with a thunderstorm thrown in,
was spent in the coolest part of the house, which wasn't very
cool.
Nathan had pains today, for which Calpol eventually had to
be administered. His hernias have been looking fine recently,
so perhaps it was common or garden tummy ache.
Granny noticed that the lad now throws his arms out when he
sees he's going to be (or wants to be) picked up. Sometimes
as parents we're too close to see these changes.

Fri 30th July
Day 326
10M 22D |
Another too-hot day for Nathan. In the end a light t-shirt
proved more cooling than just a nappy, as he felt less clammy
in it.
Last night Nathan was monitored once again for oxygen saturation
in his blood. We had a quick peek at the readings before they
went off to the doctors, and it looks like the lad hardly went
below 95% and never below 90%. Here's hoping for an oxygen free
baby in the near future.

Thu 29th July
Day 325
10M 21D |
Nathan gave us a bit of a fright this morning after breakfast.
He started repeatedly turning his head to his right and squeezing
his eyes shut in what looked horribly like a fit. He didn't
do it when horizontal, only when sitting up. As it happened
today was the day for Nathan's now monthly visit to the nurse.
She asked if he was tired at the time, and yes he was. He had
been awake for almost three hours and went to sleep almost immediately
afterwards. She said that this wasn't uncommon in babies, and
that it was because he was so tired.
In the meantime that scare story about Ready Brek was too much.
We've bought some oats with no salt added, guaranteed.
Nathan was weighed today. He's now 6.36kg
(14lb 0oz). The nurse said that in this hot weather she'd seen
three babies lose weight this week.

Wed 28th July
Day 324
10M 20D |
Nathan had his first taste of sardines today and liked it.
Apparently they contain a lot of calcium. He's also getting
used to eating food with lumps in, albeit very slowly.
We had a pretty rough night last night. Nathan woke up every
forty five minutes or so, and by four O'clock he was wide awake.

Tue 27th July
Day 323
10M 19D |
This afternoon saw the return of the milky bar kid. Nathan
decided he didn't want to eat, he wanted to drink milk instead.
The news was full of a baby who died (allegedly) of too much
salt after being fed (they said) mashed potatoes, gravy, and
Ready Brek. Well Nathan gets Ready Brek and although this baby
was under four months old it's still a cautionary tale.
