This site is about Nathan Windisch, born 14 weeks premature, he stayed at the Neonatal unit for 15 weeks.
Mon 20th September
Day 378
1Y 0M 12D

We went to Port Einon today. It's not as pretty as all the other places we've been.

Later we went to the Gower Heritage Centre. What a wonderful place. With a waterwheel driven flour mill, several mini museums and loads of ducks it kept us all amused. Nathan had a sit on a tractor, and grabbed the steering wheel like a old pro, only spoiling the effect by trying to eat it.

Sun 19th September
Day 377
1Y 0M 11D

We went to Rhossili bay today and watched the surfers. Nathan is far better in the sunshine than he was but it can't be said that he enjoys it.

We've got into a bedtime time routine that's similar, but subtly different to Reading's routine. The different environment changes everything. There's no baby bath (Nathan's got too big for it now anyway), the cot is a mattress on the floor, and the rocking chair has ben replaced by a futon in sofa mode. Dad had finished winding the lad after his first two ounces, and moved him back into feeding position. Nathan, with his eyes shut and half asleep popped the dummy out, and opened his mouth to receive more milk. He knew what was coming next.

Sat 18th September
Day 376
1Y 0M 10D

A day of rain. We eventually went on a driving tour today, including the Mumbles.

Nathan had another disturbed night. Perhaps he's bothered by a draft in the room? We'll move him tomorrow night.

The lad looks fatter around the chops. It's not surprising considering the amount he's been eating. Here's hoping for a growth spurt.

Fri 17th September
Day 375
1Y 0M 9D

We went to Llanelli bird sanctuary followed by a walk along Oxwich beach. We got the timings right for Nathan's naps once again.

The lad's doing just fine. We demonstrated a toy phone with a dial that goes click when turned and the lad understood, and managed a few clicks of his own.

Nathan continues to eat well. The only problem is that he's turing into a midnight feaster. Last night the lad had 3½ oz milk at bedtime, 4 oz at 3am and 3oz at 5:30am. It's all good news for his progress, but we all need the sleep.

Thu 16th September
Day 374
1Y 0M 8D

We took Nathan to Swansea to shop for all the things we forgot to pack. Nathan had a good nose at all the activity followed by a nice sleep in his buggy.

Later in the afternoon we went for our usual walk along Oxwich beach. We timed it so that the lad was due his second sleep of the day.

We returned home and Nathan had a record breaking five and a half cubes. A pretty good day.

Wed 15th September
Day 373
1Y 0M 7D

A day of walks on the beach and a public footpath. Wonderful though our new buggy is, it's not quite up to a style and a path eight inches wide.

We're still trying to fathom the reason for Nathan's failure to sleep through the night. Feeding him to bursting didn't work. Perhaps it's because the lad's sleeping so much more deeply and for longer during our daily walks that he needs less sleep at night?

Nathan's lump could be internal bruising. It certainly matches the only external bruise left on him. The lad is still as adverse to being on his front as he was before his hernias were fixed.

The Raspberry blowing has changed from a special noise to be incorporated into the lad's vocabulary.

Tue 14th September
Day 372
1Y 0M 6D

Nathan woke up every three hours and each time he was hungry. The first time he drank nearly five ounces, and the second time three. These are unprecedented volumes for the lad. Nathan's either taking time getting used to his new surroundings, still recovering from hospital, or is going to have to learn to sleep through the night once more now that his digestive system has moved into another gear.

The lad's developed a new noise over the last couple of days. He's been blowing rasberries and it's lovely to see that little tongue move outside his mouth. Blowing raspberries is probably also a developmental milestone towards speaking. The first time we heard this new sound was in Nathan's response to a toy that makes noises when buttons are pressed. Every time it made a noise he blew one.

Nathan's bruising has shifted towards the green, which is a funny colour for where most of the bruises are. We've noticed that there is a slight lump on the inside of the right hand side of Nathan's scrotum. Hopefully it's nothing serious. It's not causing the lad any pain anyway.

The day has been as full of feasting as the night. Nathan managed a five cube supper for the first time.

We've changed the nightime routine slightly. It involves more talking to the lad as he starts to understand what we're saying to him. He already understands "dum dum" or similar sounding word, and has got the hang of "milk". Nathan probably also understands "no" but generally responds with an impish smile.
