This site is about Nathan Windisch, born 14 weeks premature, he stayed at the Neonatal unit for 15 weeks.

Mon 18th October
Day 406
1Y 1M 10D

Nathan's learned a new game. You place a pillow or cushion in front of him and hit it with the palm of your hand a few times. Nathan follows suit. It may only be a matter of luck, but sometimes the lad matches the number of times you hit the pillow as well.

The lad's movements progress apace. Nathan's been seen leaning forward from seated, moving into a crawling position, then pushing himself back to a sitting position again.

We're getting used to a new noise, that of the click of teeth on toys as Nathan gnaws away. Keep that finger out of gnashing range.

Sun 17th October
Day 405
1Y 1M 9D

We think that the key to Nathan's nighttime behaviour is a need to consume 7 oz of milk for the night. Unfortunately, he can't get this all down in one go, hence he has a bedtime feed at 7:00pm of 3-4 oz and a midnight snack at 11:00pm-3:00am of 3-4 oz.

The lad's starting to move a bit more. If there's something he particularly wants then he may reach out so far that he's not sitting down but leaning over forward, balancing on his arms. If he then collapses he can always do a commando roll, and end up on his back.

Sat 16th October
Day 404
1Y 1M 8D

A pretty good day. There was a bit of teething trouble, but apart from that Nathan was a happy little chappy. We went into town and the lad dreamily inspected all around him. He's a daydreamer and that's for sure.

Nathan's still sharing his dummy around to both mum and dad, so that wasn't a flash in the pan.

Fri 15th October
Day 403
1Y 1M 7D

Nathan was a bit grumpy today. He just couldn't get enough sleep. Once he starts moving about he should be able to get properly tired.

Nathan did something surprising today. He offered his dummy to dad, several times. The offer was gratefully accepted.

Thu 14th October
Day 402
1Y 1M 6D

A gloriously uneventful day. Nathan got some serious sleeping in (and so did dad) to recover from a bad night.

We visited Buscot ward at the Royal Berkshire hospital, where Nathan lived the first 15 weeks of his life. Everyone was pleased to see him, although the lad seemed somewhat nervous as we walked through the corridors to the maternity block where Buscot is situated. It's difficult to imagine how much he can remember.

Wed 13th October
Day 401
1Y 1M 5D

Things chimed a little better today. Nathan slept a bit better, and strained a little less.

A new friend visited today. He's a month younger than the lad, but bigger and stronger. The visit inspired Nathan to have a go at crawling. He still lacks the strength in his arms, but he managed to stay on all fours for longer than ever before (about thirty seconds).

Nathan enjoys bathtime again. Hurrah! He's still in the big bath, and has space to play with his toys. Now he cries when it's time to get out.

Tue 12th October
Day 400
1Y 1M 4D

We went shopping in Sainsbury's for the first time. We chose a trolley with a baby seat and with the aid of Nathan's sling stuffed behind his back, the lad could survey the scene.

Nathan is still straining a little too much when pooing. It's causing him pain and us anxiety. We'll increase the Lactulose dosage and introduce the lad to raisins and plums. He should be drinking more fluids of course but you can bring a bottle to Nathan's lips but getting him to drink it is another matter.
