This site is about Nathan Windisch, born 14 weeks premature, he stayed at the Neonatal unit for 15 weeks.

Mon 25th October
Day 413
1Y 1M 17D

Nathan seems to have recovered from his cold, but his appetite wasn't up to much today.

Phase of the day was "Giggle giggle giggle giggle giggle (pickle)" That's what it sounded like anyway.

We've noticed that Nathan is favouring his right arm. He likes to bash things, and rarely is his left arm used for this task.

Sun 24th October
Day 412
1Y 1M 16D

Last night was pretty tough.

Granny and Grandpa came to visit and although the lad was a bit subdued at first he soon got into full flow.

We've got a new game. A couple of days ago we noticed that if one of us was reading a book in Nathan's sight, a head would pop round the edge of the book. Nathan leans to an alarming angle in order to see what he wants.

At first, Nathan only leaned to his right, but he's rapidly become more mobile, and aware of what's out of sight. We spent some happy minutes this evening playing a real game of peek-a-boo. One of us being the object to hide behind, and the other being the hider.

Sat 23rd October
Day 411
1Y 1M 15D

A snotty old day for Nathan. The lad did lots of sleeping, but wasn't a lot of fun awake. Last night consisted of ninety minute sleeps interspersed with 30 minute calming down sessions. Much Vicks and Karvol was used, with a bit of Calpol for good measure.

Tonight won't be much better.

Fri 22nd October
Day 410
1Y 1M 14D

The cold continues. It's definitely more serious at night. During the day the lad's mostly OK except when he gets particularly bunged up, and panics because he can't breathe through his nose.

Apart from that, Granny came to visit, and we went shopping. Nathan especially enjoyed the DIY shop, and although he fitted nicely into the sink with the gold taps, he wasn't too taken by it.

Thu 21st October
Day 409
1Y 1M 13D

We went swimming today and Nathan loved it. He also had another go at toast. With two upper incisors now showing, he can only half bite off bits to eat, but it won't be long before he's merrily chomping away.

By the time bedtime came around Nathan had developed a cold. This doesn't make him the best tempered of babies during the day, but at night he can't breathe through his nose, and keeps waking up crying.

Wed 20th October
Day 408
1Y 1M 12D

It took a week, but changing Nathan's diet to include raisins, apricot and plums has finally had it's effect.

Nathan's wriggling and struggling more each day to either stand up or crawl. He still seems very satisfied after having performed a "commando roll", but he'll doubtless set his sights higher soon.

Tue 19th October
Day 407
1Y 1M 11D

Nathan had his flu jab today. Babies under three get it in two half 2.5 ml doses. The lad almost completely lost his appetite for lunch but (hopefully) that's been the only side effect.

He's had rice cakes, he's had bread sticks, and today Nathan managed a few bites of toast. The next step is to put things on the toast.

We were playing in the late afternoon and the sunlight shone across Nathan's chest from the side. The lad was playing with his hands when he noticed the shadow was moving as well. It didn't take Nathan long to realise that the shadow was his, and make shadow shapes.
