This site is about Nathan Windisch, born 14 weeks premature, he stayed at the Neonatal unit for 15 weeks.

Mon 17th January
Day 497
1Y 4M 10D

Nanna came today, and under her spell the lad said "teddy" and "iggy" (the name of a toy) on cue. It didn't work once she'd gone, of course.

We read Nathan a bedtime story from Winnie-the-Pooh. It was so sweet, and Nathan's eyes were so large... it was a magic moment.

Still in proto-crawl mode, Nathan now rotates both clockwise and anti-clockwise in order to get a better idea of where the best toys are.

It's worth noting that these days Nathan has no interest in his dummy. It's been coming on slowly, but all those fears about having to wean the lad off when he was five have turned out to be unfounded.

Nathan was a bit grizzly today. His poos have been less regular and more painful of late. We have accordingly increased the Lactulose dose to 2ml at breakfast, and an extra 1.5ml dose at dinner. This should do the trick.

Sun 16th January
Day 496
1Y 4M 9D
The three of us went swimming today and the lad had a jolly good splash and a bit of a swim. It was such good fun that Nathan was all out of splashes by bedtime and, for once, was grateful for his bed.
Sat 15th January
Day 495
1Y 4M 8D

Nathan was a bit off his food today. We tried offering him three different toppings on toast but they ended up on the floor.

We did, however, get the chance to show the lad off to some friends who hadn't seen him for a while. Not only did he sit nicely and proto-crawl, Nathan was also on his most charming and smiley behaviour.

Fri 14th January
Day 494
1Y 4M 7D

Young Nathan continues to proto-crawl.

He also enjoyed his first swimming class for a while, and even remembered to kick near the end.

Thu 13th January
Day 493
1Y 4M 6D

Nathan was weighed yesterday. He's now 7.8kg (17lb 3oz). Not a bad gain.

The nurse who weighed Nathan also suggested that mashed banana was a good food with which to start the lad feeding himself. It was a good suggestion as it's not too sloppy.

Nathan had other ideas. He played with the bowl for fifteen minutes but wouldn't eat any of it. We'll try again, just before the lad gets a change of clothes as that banana gets everywhere.

Wed 12th January
Day 492
1Y 4M 5D

Jo Jingles is a singing puppet and Nathan went to Jo's music class today. It was all a bit confusing because there was a lot going on, but he'll come to enjoy it. Part of the class involves use of instruments which, for 1-2 year olds are claves (wooden sticks) and bells.

We've got a little wheeled vehicle that Nathan sits in when he's in the kitchen. The idea is that he wheels himself about, and today Nathan started to push himself backwards.

Tue 11th January
Day 491
1Y 4M 4D

A fun-packed day. Nathan went to the "local" playgroup which is in the grounds of the school that he'll probably be going to a few years hence.

Lots of activity ensued, including several struggles for possession of toys, most of which Nathan lost due to his small size. The lad didn't seem to mind, however. It's got to be good for him.

Then we went swimming. Nathan seems to have forgotten much of what he learned when he earned his duckling badge due to an enforced dry spell (due to his dad's foot being in plaster). It'll come back soon enough. We're going back to the classes on Friday.
