This site is about Nathan Windisch, born 14 weeks premature, he stayed at the Neonatal unit for 15 weeks.

Mon 7th August
Day 700
1Y 10M 31D

Nathan was weighed today, and it was a bit of a shock to discover that he's 8.58kg (18lb 14½oz). He's lost a couple of ounces over the last month.

The health visitor didn't seem too worried. She said that the scales might be calibrated differently, and that if the lad's been more active (he has) then that might explain it.

She mentioned something else of interest too, that iron supplements can cause constipation, and that's certainly what Nathan's been suffering from for ages.

She only mentioned it because she was a witness to one of the lad's many nappy changes today, and saw the colour of the "stool". A dead ringer for iron constipation. She had a word with a doctor, and we're now going to try giving Nathan his iron supplements every other day, rather than daily.

The health visitor also said that vitamin C helps the body to absorb iron, and that if we can manage to give the lad some watered down orange juice, than his might also help the problem. Consider it done.

We went to visit Nanna at Odds Park Farm. Nathan enjoyed it, as he always does. Today he had a lot of fun climbing in and out of those "Fred Flintstone" cars (for the first time).

Sun 6th August
Day 699
1Y 10M 30D

We went to a friend's 60th birthday party today.

It was so exciting that Nathan broke his previous "stay awake" record (was until 3pm) by lasting until bedtime, at 6:30pm. The lad was so tired that he waved bye bye to mum after his bath. He just wanted to be left alone so he could sleep.

Sat 5th August
Day 698
1Y 10M 29D

A quiet day, consisting of a trip to feed the ducks, another to watch the cars go by, and not much else.

The lad seems to be settling down to eating more. Thankfully he likes fruit (apples & pears) as well as crackers and crisps. We'll try to get him used to eating at set times in a week or so.

Fri 4th August
Day 697
1Y 10M 28D

Nathan had a lovely day today. Granny came to visit, and he was as bouncy as he's ever been.

The lad now says "thank you" to show you that he's giving you something. He's experimenting with cruising with a lighter and lighter touch on things, almost standing up in fact.

Thu 3rd August
Day 696
1Y 10M 27D

Today we went to Dad's group and the lad really got into it. For a while he forgot that we were there.

In the afternoon some more friends came around and played making tea with Nathan.

We've been having a go teaching Nathan to count. Looking through a magazine the other morning, Nathan spotted a car advert and said "Two cars", and indeed there were.

Wed 2nd August
Day 695
1Y 10M 26D
Nathan went for another eye check at the hospital today. The good news is that his squint seems to have disappeared (we still see it from time to time, when the lad's really tired). We've another "let's keep a watch on it" check up in February.
Tue 1st August
Day 694
1Y 10M 25D

Today we went to visit a seven month old friend. This little chap loves nothing more than to stand up.

Nathan had more teething pain, probably from his lower canines. He's braving it out but it sometimes gets the better of him.
