This site is about Nathan Windisch, born 14 weeks premature, he stayed at the Neonatal unit for 15 weeks.

Mon 4th September
Day 728
1Y 11M 28D

Nanna came to visit today and she brought more of uncle Rob's old cars.

The lad's just that little bit closer to walking now. He's started to push his little cart with blocks in it, as recommended by the physiotherapist.

Day 727

Grandpa and uncle Adrian visited today. We were going to go to the Shire Horse Centre near Maidenhead but, as the lad fell asleep on the way there, we decided to go to a rather nice pub just on the Thames in Maidenhead.

Then we went on to support mum, who was playing in the finals of our local bowls club's two-wood finals. She won.

Sat 2nd September
Day 726
1Y 11M 26D

We visited Granny and Grandpa today. Nathan had a nice little sleep on the way there, and stayed awake on the way back - absolutely perfect timing as far as we're concerned.

It's sad but true. Nathan is learning the names of parts of the body as he bashes and bumps them. e.g. Nathan: "Waaaah"
Dad:    "Oh, did you bash your arm/finger/head/chin?"

Fri 1st September
Day 725
1Y 11M 25D

Grandma came to visit and among other things, we went to get those shoes. The second shop was much more helpful, although the lad reacted as if his feet were being sawn off at the ankles.

They're very nice shoes: lace-ups, and firmer than his previous ones. We'll introduce them gently.

Thu 31st August
Day 724
1Y 11M 24D

Today we had a bit of a shop. We were looking for some new shoes to support the lad's feet better but ran into a problem. The shop assistants wouldn't sell us anything other than pre-walkers, as he can't walk yet regardless of the physiotherapist's recommendation. We'll try another shop tomorrow.

We went to the Cintra Park toddler's group in the afternoon, which was outside today, and Nathan did some more hand-held walking.

Wed 30th August
Day 723
1Y 11M 23D

We went to a friend's house today. They played with trains, cars and a ball outside. Nathan watched while his friend ran about.

The lad's made the connection between his own little fabric tunnel, and the kind of tunnel you drive under. he points these out as we drive along.

We went to the physiotherapist. We all expected the lad to be walking by now, but he's getting so near to it that last time's progress seems primitive in comparison. We're going to get some supportive boots, which should help.

Tue 29th August
Day 722
1Y 11M 22D

We spent the first post-"University clearing week and Reading Festival weekend" day doing absolutely nothing. True, we went down to the end of the road to watch the cars go by, but besides that, nothing.

Nathan made a surprise addition to his diet - grapes. He started by popping one in his mouth, biting on it, then spitting it out, as he's done so many times before. Then we gave him a little sliver of grape, which went in successfully. The next step was to give them to the lad pre-peeled. He liked them. Five grapes later and Nathan was popping whole, unpeeled grapes into his mouth with some relish.
