This site is about Nathan Windisch, born 14 weeks premature, he stayed at the Neonatal unit for 15 weeks.

Mon 9th October
Day 763
2Y 1M 2D

Nathan's started to sing. He may have done so before, but now it's unmistakably singing. His favourite song is the theme from "Bob The Builder".

We've tried another of the dietitian's suggestions: Playing with food. Today it was jelly with a Lego figure embedded in it. Not entirely successful, bur the idea is to get the lad more used to handling messy things. The logic is that if he can handle these things then he won't be as fussy when it comes to putting them in his mouth.

Sun 8th October
Day 762
2Y 1M 1D

We went to a friend's christening today. Seemingly lots of two year olds running around and pushing each other over (Nathan being a pushee only).

We're still trying to get the lad interested in his yoghurts. He's still interested in them in theory only. Perhaps we should collect the pots for him.

Sat 7th October
Day 761
2Y 0M 29D

Today we went to Nanna and Grandad's house (mum's parents) for mum's birthday meal.

Nathan was a little tired and emotional by the time we got to the restaurant, but after his sleep he was as good as gold, showing off to everyone.

Fri 6th October
Day 760
2Y 0M 28D
Granny came to visit today, and Nathan had a lovely time. He especially enjoyed his discovery that there's a camper van at the end of the road. Exciting stuff.
Thu 5th October
Day 759
2Y 0M 27D

The first day of the new regime worked quite well. Nathan decided that while he was at table he might as well eat something. In fact he ate quite well all day.

We went to Dad's group (up to three dads now), and the lad played nicely, even interacting with some of the other kids, closing the door every time someone went into the Wendy house.

Wed 4th October
Day 758
2Y 0M 26D

We had three hospital appointments today.

Firstly we went to a dietitian. We got some useful advice.

  • Try not to feed Nathan milk two hours before he's due to eat.
  • Promote regular mealtimes. He'll learn to get hungry by habit.
  • Introduce new foods as extensions of the old ones. i.e. soft cheese eaten by dipping crackers into it.
  • A new, even more calorific version of pediasure.

Then we went on to the Orthotist to have the lad's new shoes fitted. They're stiffer and more supportive than ordinary shoes, but they have cats on the sides, so Nathan's more than happy with them.

Lastly we went to the physiotherapist. Nathan's decided he doesn't like being made to do things at all, and cried and cried. Once the physiotherapist had gone off to fetch her diary, and the lad was back in his clothes, he proceeded to do everything that she wanted him to do all by himself.

Tue 3rd October
Day 757
2Y 0M 25D

Nathan had a lovely time at the Tuesday toddler group. He played for longer on his own than he's ever done before.

After lunch we went on to a friend's house where Nathan is fifteen months older, but about the same size. Ask the lad if he likes this little one and he says "yes". In fact he likes every child he meets, even the ones who spend more time kicking him than anything else.
