This site is about Nathan Windisch, born 14 weeks premature, he stayed at the Neonatal unit for 15 weeks.

Mon 29th January
Day 875
2Y 4M 22D

Great aunty Eileen visited today. She was most impressed with the lad's progress.

She brought Nathan a clock and we were trying to show him how to tell the time with it. The lad has already received a cardboard clock in the shape of a teddy bear for Christmas. We've put it away for when he's a little older. Dad had forgotten this and was searching around for it, saying "Where's the..." when Nathan suppplied "...Teddy bear clock".

Sun 28th January
Day 874
2Y 4M 21D
A nice quiet day at home. We didn't do much, Nathan did lots of dancing and ate more than a packet of crisps, unfortunately losing it all again in a mini-tantrum just before bathtime.
Sat 27th January
Day 873
2Y 4M 20D
We went to the Thatchers pub today with some friends. Nathan had a nice time, but he was a tad fragile. There was a birthday party with 12 two/three year olds at the table next to us so perhaps it was a bit noisy for the lad.
Fri 26th January
Day 872
2Y 4M 19D

The cough was still with Nathan today, so we got an emergency appointment at the doctor, who prescribed erythromycin, a different antibiotic from the usual Amoxycyllin. We've also made an appointment for a follow up visit on Tuesday.

Dad had a phone conversation with the lad and it was amazing how responsive he was. He answers every question. it was lovely.

Thu 25th January
Day 871
2Y 4M 18D
We've all had coughs for the last couple of days and by mid-afternoon Nathan was coughing away as badly as he'd been over Christmas. We'll see how he does tonight, then take him to the doctor in the morning if it's still bad.
Wed 24th January
Day 870
2Y 4M 17D

We went to Hickory Dickory Dock, to lunch in town with a friend, and onto the physiotherapist for Nathan's final visit. He doesn't have to have another appointment for that particular branch of the medical service.

The visit didn't start well for the lad. A nice contented standing and walking boy in the waiting room became a sobbing wreck when taken to the physiotherapist's own room. He just hates being examined. In the end we went to a different room, and the physiotherapist hid outside, peering through the frosted glass.

We'd taken Nathan's trousers and shoes off so that she could examine the lad's stance better, and the lad was still adamant that he didn't want to play with any of the toys in the room when he spotted the physiotherapist outside the glass. He walked towards her, and his nappy fell off. Dad laughed so much that Nathan cheered up, and started showing off his stuff (with his nappy back on!).

After that appointment we saw the speech therapist for Nathan's eating. She made an initial assessment and will visit us at home to see the lad eating in his own environment in a couple of weeks time.

Tue 23rd January
Day 869
2Y 4M 16D

Nathan's friend and hero invited him to Whoosh! today so we went again. The lad still loves it.

Eating is slowly getting better. Nathan's on the three basic food groups: crisps, chocolate and apples. It's better than nothing but the problem is in getting all that tasty food past the lad's little lips.
