This site is about Nathan Windisch, born 14 weeks premature, he stayed at the Neonatal unit for 15 weeks.
Mon 16th July
Day 1041
2Y 10M 7D

First thing we went to the library to get some new books out. We also got the lad a new hat, and some more crisps and yoghourt, especially yoghourt, as the lad's turning into a yog-a-holic.

Then Nanna came, and Nathan ran around so much that he had to have a nap. In the afternoon we went to see mummy bowling, and also to play on some nearby swings and slides.

Sun 15th July
Day 1040
2Y 10M 6D

We went to see Granny and Grandpa and met a cousin of Granny's who was visiting.

After lunch we went on the Underground to Northwood Hills to a playground. It didn't look like much, but the lad enjoyed it enormously, especially the helter skelter slide.

Sat 14th July
Day 1039
2Y 10M 5D

We spent the day with one of Nathan's little friends. Together we went to a playground, to the Thatchers pub for lunch, and to the bowls green to watch mummy organise the open day there.

There was a nice little moment where both boys were offering each other food to eat.

Fri 12th July
Day 1038
2Y 10M 4D

Nathan's fairly well recovered now, it's proving a battle of wills getting the lad to continue his course of antibiotics, but we're getting there.

Granny came and dad went out for most of the day, so nothing to report.

[Warning: not for the squeamish] The "Glitter stickers for big poo" campaign is starting to work. Nathan loves getting them, and he seems to be doing more big poos, and fewer 10-nappies-and-all-of-them-skidmarks. This must be increasing the likelihood of potty training the lad.

Thu 11th July
Day 1037
2Y 10M 3D

Nathan's back to 80% after a day on Penicillin.

We had arranged to go to Legoland with Grandpa today but bad weather and illness stopped us. Still, we had a picnic in the living room, and (when the weather cleared a little) we went to Dinton country pastures. We met a friend there, and all had a jolly time.

As for the psychologist, she agreed that we're making progress, even if it's slow progress. The advice this time was...

  • Once a day offer Nathan the foods you want him to eat (as opposed to what you think he will eat). Introduce new foods at this time
  • Encourage Nathan to come to the table (to talk or play) when you are eating.
  • Feed Nathan in front of the TV. If he stops eating, turn off the TV, get up and take the food away. Offer it again (with TV) after 5 - 10 minutes.

We're seeing her again in a month's time.

Wed 10th July
Day 1036
2Y 10M 2D
Full tonsillitis today. We also managed a visit to the psychologist (full report tomorrow), and when we went to the doctor we got a prescription for penicillin. The lad was feeling a bit better by bedtime, but he was still very tired.
Tue 10th July
Day 1036
2Y 10M 2D

Toddler group today. Nathan let dad wander about and chat to people as the lad played happily. He also sat nicely through the story telling at the end. He's really growing up.

In the afternoon Nathan went off with friends to Whoosh. The lad wasn't entirely happy about dad leaving him, but enjoyed himself when he got there.

On his return, the lad had a bit of a temperature. He perked up by bedtime, but we've put him to bed with some Calpol.
