This site is about Nathan Windisch, born 14 weeks premature, he stayed at the Neonatal unit for 15 weeks.

Day 1049

Another early start to the day, and we went too to The World in Miniature.

It's a rather strange approximation of our world. The Taj Mahal in marigold and white and the Spinks (sic) with its nose repaired, although the flowers around the place were very nice. Nathan didn't really enjoy it, one sure sign of that was that he refused to walk anywhere, and was happiest at the amusement arcade at the end.

We went for a quick shop in Perranporth, and Nathan had his afternoon nap, another two hour one. Perhaps we're letting the lad sleep for two long. He's been used to 45 minute sleeps during the day, and the change may be throwing him off balance and resulting in these 5:30am awakenings.

In the afternoon, we explored the activities available at the adjacent campsite, Haven. We played in the soft play area and on the climbing equipment outside.

Day 1048

Nathan woke up extra early this morning, probably because it get's a little cold in the caravan. Still, we had a chance to see the rabbits outside.

We went to the Bodmin & Wenford railway to see Thomas the tank engine. Nathan was so surprised to see one of his favourite characters made real that he could barely talk for a few minutes. As well as going for a short ride on Thomas' train, we had a go on a model railway on the platform and a ride on a brake car pulled by one of Thomas' friends, Ben.

After a short drive, and a two hour sleep, We played at Dobwalls This place looks uninspiring at first glance, but there was lots to do. We played in the soft play area, and had two rides on the trains there. Nathan loved it.

Day 1047

We were all up early and decided to go to Cornish Market World. We had a good old shop and bought a new music tape for Nathan and some Bob the builder figures. We also rode on the train and cars at the adjacent Charlie's adventure land.

All went well until lunch time. Nathan hasn't eaten much since his cough started up, and he's become very anxious about it again. In the end he got so contrary that we had to go home. Thankfully Nathan fell asleep, and was in a better mood for the afternoon.

We went onto Perran sands and build sand castles and had a paddle on the lovely sand there.

Sat 21st July
Day 1046
2Y 10M 12D

The first day of our holiday in Perranporth, we set off mid morning and stopped off at Crealy Park just after lunch.

We came here on our holiday last year when Nathan was still crawling. This year he could move about on his own terms, although the lad wasn't feeling very well today. He picked up a cough yesterday and we all had a bad night. Still, it meant that Nathan slept most of the way here, not a bad thing as it's a five hour drive.

We arrived at 6:30, and found that we'd booked a very comfortable caravan, although dad's going to have to develop sea legs, as the thing seems to shake when someone moves around inside, or when the wind blows.

Fri 20th July
Day 1045

We didn't do much today. Granny came to visit and Nathan had his usual terrific time. He was so tired by the end of the day that he could barely walk.
Thu 19th July
Day 1044
2Y 10M 10D

Another busy day. First we went to Twyford station to see the trains go by. Then onto Cintra Park for the dad's group. For some reason there were no mums at all today, just four dads, four lads and a lass.

After that we went shopping, and had a late lunch in Woolworths. They have loads of room to park buggies by the tables and the children's meals are great, although we can't work the free gift, a yo-yo. Must be something wrong with it.

Wed 18th July
Day 1043
2Y 10M 9D

A busy day today. First we went to orthotics to have Nathan's feet measured. He's gone up a size, and has chosen the same design as before, but this time in blue.

Then onto the dietitian. Nathan now weighs 10.4kg (22lb 14oz) and as ever, the measure of the lad's progress is in the time to the next appointment. This time it's three months. We've been given a prescription for duocal, and the idea is to use it to push Nathan's progress a few steps above the line he's following on the age/weight chart.

Hickory Dickory Dock was the last session before the summer holidays. It was also the last session for one of Nathan's little friends, so a sad occasion.

Then onto Dinton Pastures Country Park with two other home dads. A teacher was leading her pupils out of the play area and she commented to us "A dad's day out".

We had a great time on the play equipment, and Nathan climbed like he's never climbed before. He had a fall, but it wasn't too bad, and hopefully won't affect the lad's new found adventurousness.

Nathan was trying to convince dad to go in the pop-up cube and bounce up like a jack-in-the-box. He said "Be popped up jack-in-the-box like me".

Tue 17th July
Day 1042
2Y 10M 8D

We went to London to meet Nathan's cousins. They were all there, a four year old, a one year old and two babies.

We went to the park and played and had juice and biscuits together, then home for some lunch, and another play. We had a lovely day, and it was nice for Nathan to "bond" with them.

Nathan was having a tantrum the other day, and dad was telling the lad what a funny boy he was. Nathan said "I'm not funny, I'm crying".
