This site is about Nathan Windisch, born 14 weeks premature, he stayed at the Neonatal unit for 15 weeks.

Day 1076

Dad's birthday, and we had a quick shopping trip before Nanna came to visit. Nathan was as good as gold.

Then Nanna came, and Nathan did lots of running around and hiding in his tent (made of a clothes horse and two blankets).

Afterwards we took the train into Reading. Due to problems on the line we had to get a bus back. While we were waiting we watched the busy world go by, including a taxi rank in full business and a group of police turning traffic back at a no-through zone.

Nathan fell asleep on the bus in dad's arms and I had one of those moments where it was so clear just how lucky I am to be looking after the lad. Everybody else was returning home from work, miserable. I had the boy I love asleep in my arms. Every day is special.

Sun 19th August
Day 1075
2Y 11M 11D

A quiet day, but a day of firsts.

Nathan can now open and close one of our internal doors (to the launry room). We've always had to let him back out in the past.

At bedtime we've been putting the lad into bed, and leaving the room again to clean the bathroom up (the plan is really to get Nathan to go to sleep without needing one of us in the room with him). Tonight he was asleep by the time we'd finished.

Sat 18th August
Day 1074

We picked the lad up from Granny and Grandpa's house. He had a really great time, especially a trip to Canary Wharf on the Underground and a trip on the Docklands Light Railway.
Fri 17th August
Day 1073
2Y 11M 9D

We've shipped the lad off for a second sleepover at Granny and Grandad's, so it was our night off.

Yesterday Mum was trying to get Nathan to do something. The lad said "Yuckarooney" (see the Tweenies), mum said "No it's lovely" and Nathan said "Worth a try".

Thu 16th August
Day 1072
2Y 11M 8D
We posted some letters and waited for the postman to come and collect them, then went to play on the swings and slides and feed the ducks. It was lovely weather, and a lovely relaxed day.
Wed 15th August
Day 1071
2Y 11M 7D
We went to Whipsnade wildlife park today with a group of home dads. It was a great day out, with a group of friendly dads and well behaved kids.
Tue 14th August
Day 1070
2Y 11M 6D

First thing was a visit to the psychiatrist. The message is to carry on in the same way, making small changes and introducing new foods.

We spent most of the day at Dinton Country Pastures with friends. We fed the ducks and dodged around the swings and slides (too many older children), picked blackberrys and ate ice-cream.

In fact, Nathan really enjoyed his ice-cream for the first time ever. Perhaps because it was so sunny and warm.
