Meaning: white water or
stream .
Beautifully situated in the Chiltern Hills, Wendover
includes several Georgian and older houses and a golf
course. Good workmanship in the decorated style can
be seen in the local church, which contains a curious
brass to William Bradshaw. Ancient Icknield Way runs
through the area. Coombe Hill is a 852 ft viewpoint
rising to the west, it is one of the highpoints in the
Chilterns. It is surmounted by a monument .
Traces of British settlement have been found here.
John Hampden and Edmund Burke represented the borough.
From the time of Edward IV, weekly markets were
held here for over 400 years. Since then, fairs have
been held in October and May .
