Great Hampden  Buckinghamshire
Hampden House was rebuilt in 1754, and was the home of John Hampden for many years. It now houses a girls’ school. Hampden opposed Charles I’s Ship-Money Tax, fought for the parliamentary army, and died after the battle of Chalgrove. He is buried in the churchyard. The church dates mainly from the 13th century and contains Hampden family monuments The AA touring guide to England: 1980.
