Several Georgian houses still stand in Watlington,
and the settlement is situated at the foot of the Chiltern
escarpment. The market hall dates from 1664. Watlington
Hill is a splendid 800 ft viewpoint lying 1.5 miles
to the south-east and the modernized and moated 14th
century house of Shirburn Castle stands 1 mile to the
north-east .
